La raíz
Cuando el comité organizador de la Copa América Perú 2004 elige a Toronja como aliado en comunicaciones, nos advierte que tiene pocos recursos, y unas imágenes del cantautor Gianmarco interpretando una canción que cedió para tal acontecimiento.

En nuestras manos estaba aprovechar esas imágenes para usarlas en TV, y diseñar una campaña de bajo costo para crear una atmósfera futbolera que llenara los estadios.

La pepa
Nuestro objetivo era que el peruano promedio sintiera que, como país, sí éramos capaces de organizar una copa futbolística de nivel mundial. Ya que faltaban recursos, creamos el concepto "Esta Copa la hacemos todos", de forma tal que cada peruano pudiera potenciar la difusión de esta campaña. Así, al lado de este comercial que inauguró simbólicamente la fiesta del fútbol, hicimos stickers para involucrar a los taxistas, banderolas para convocar a los barrios, stickers en los papeleros de la calle para los transeúntes de ciertas avenidas, viniles para buses para los pasajeros metropolitanos, y hasta mensajes de texto y de voz en celulares advirtiendo que "te estás perdiendo un partidazo".

Incluso los medios tradicionales se volvieron participativos: por ejemplo, en una ocasión en que se nos concedió una doble página en El Comercio, la diseñamos de tal forma que la gente la pudiera utilizar como afiche en ventanas, negocios y autos.

El fruto
La Copa América Perú 2004 no sólo fue un éxito en afluencia de público. También resultó ser la más rentable de todas las organizadas hasta la fecha. La comunicación no puede llevarse ese crédito, pero sí puede decir que ayudó a lograr tales objetivos.
